That We Might Have Joy Book Cover & Interior
In "That We Might Have Joy", Dr. Jennifer Finlayson–Fife reframes sexuality not as a threat to faith, but as an expression of it. She shows us how sexual intimacy can reveal the truth of a relationship—and, for those willing to confront that truth, it can become the starting point of something far more soul-sustaining. "That We Might Have Joy" is a call to greater integrity—within our marriages, our faith, and ourselves. It invites us to live more honestly, love more deeply, and discover what becomes possible when we heal the division between our spiritual and sexual selves. In the process of creating the cover and interior for this book we relied on the themes heavily in design decisions we made. To help communicate visually the idea that our bodies in their entirety are gifts, we used humanist typography, an internal grid based on the golden section, and a natural white paper sans lamination for the cover and interior. The hope was to express that embrace of the divine natural through how the book looks, feels and is read. The book title, chapter names, section titles, and page numbers are typeset in the type foundry Bitstream's cut of Lydian, a calligraphic humanist sans-serif typeface designed by Warren Chappell in 1938 and named for his wife, Lydia. His typeface is a masterstroke in expressing the elegance of pen-written strokes within a sans-serif skeleton. The text of the book is typeset in William, a modern interpretation of William Casion's historic typeface, crafted by Maria Doreuli to honor tradition while meeting the demands of contemporary design. The footnotes and in-text endnote indicators are typeset in Freight Sans, designed by Joshua Darden. Printed on 60 lb Accent Opaque Warm White, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SF1) Certified.
